Clay Aiken Disses American Idol and Adam LambertThe Former Idol Contestant Criticizes the Hit Show and Runner-Up
Clay Aiken has been publicly criticizing 'American Idol', and has even dissed runner-up Adam Lambert. Clay doesn't seem to be a fan of the hit reality show.
The 'Idol' Seaon 2 runner-up bashed the show for being biased, and not about 'real people'. Clay Slams American Idol on His WebsiteClay posted a lengthy description of his feelings about ‘American Idol’ on his subscription-only website in which he criticized the show for basically telling people who to vote for. He continues to say, "Not even having watched the show, I can tell you that I was WELL aware of the bias from the judges as to who should win. In my opinion, that is awfully unattractive. I don’t think I am alone." Clay compared the recent seasons of the show to the earlier seasons by writing, "The show was different then, and folks made it in seasons 1-3 because they were ‘real’ people who happened to sing/entertain well. But, somewhere along the way, AI stopped being about real people." Clay Not a Fan of Adam LambertDespite admitting that he hadn’t watched one episode of season 8 until the finale, Clay developed a disliking toward runner-up Adam Lambert. He writes on his website, "I wasn’t really a fan and found myself surprised whenever folks told me that they liked him. Granted, I never saw another performance (and many folks who I trust said that he was great) but I can’t imagine I would have enjoyed it. Just not my cup of tea at all." He continues, "I never saw Kris sing on the show, but whether he was good or not is really relative. It’s usually a matter of taste, right? But Idol is not always a matter of musical taste only. It’s about the person you like. From what little I saw, Kris seemed likable. (That’s not to say that Adam isn’t just as likable as anyone.. maybe more so… I don’t know)." Clay describes the final show-down between himself and Ruben Studdard in comparison to the season 8 finale. He writes, "When Ruben and I were standing next to each other every night (many years ago) you had two equally talented, equally unlikely, equally unpolished contestants.... so it really was a matter of taste as to who was voted for. While some may argue that one of us was hyped more than the other, I don't feel that was the case." Clay Aiken Not Welcomed on American Idol SetIt seems that at some point Clay had a change of heart about Adam. Prior to this public blasting of Adam, Clay actually wanted to do a duet with the runner-up. He apparently reached out to Adam earlier this month about collaborating on a future project. Clay reportedly showed up unannounced on the "Idol" set, and was apparently not given a warm welcome. The show is reportedly not happy with Clay for leaving 19 Entertainment, the show’s management company. It seems that Clay’s bitterness just may have something to do with him being thrown out of the American Idol set. Clay may simply be lashing out at Adam and the show itself after being let down when requesting a duet.
