Meet The Rumored Men of Survivor 20Boston Rob, Rupert, James, and Coach Among The All-Stars to Compete
Premiering in February 2010, Survivor's twentieth edition will feature some of the best players and most memorable characters reunited in a tenth-anniversary special.
On August 10, 2009, Survivor Sucks poster survivor300 divulged a list of 18 former contestants rumored to be on the upcoming All-Stars edition of the CBS smash-hit Survivor. Almost a month later, additional information has emerged to support his list and two names have been added by reliable posters to round out the cast. According to the speculated list, the men of Survivor 20 are a group consisting mostly of muscular athletes and challenge threats rather than strategic masterminds. Notable omissions include third-timers Johnny Fairplay and Ozzy Lusth, Exile Island’s Shane Powers, Micronesia’s Erik Reichenbach, Gabon’s Ken Hoang, and Richard Hatch, winner of the first Survivor series, who was denied permission to participate in this anniversary season. Let’s meet the men speculated to be on Survivor 20: Colby Donaldson, Australia/ All-Stars:Thirty-five year-old Colby Donaldson was one of the most popular players from Survivor: Australia. He finished second place after making one of the worst strategic decisions of the game: he took Tina to the Final Two instead of Keith, who he would have easily defeated in the end. Colby reluctantly participated in the first All-Stars edition, but offered little to the game. How will this Texas cowboy fare the third time around? Rob Mariano, Marquesas/ All-Stars:After finishing second place to his future wife Amber, 33 year-old “Boston Rob” Mariano went on to compete on two seasons of The Amazing Race. On August 2, 2009, it was announced that Amber had just given birth to a baby girl. In spite of his daughter’s birth, it appears that Mariano is back for a third time and if his first two seasons are any indication, he’ll definitely add some drama to the game. Rupert Boneham, Pearl Islands/ All-Stars:Often toted as the most popular Survivor ever, 45 year-old Rupert Boneham was awarded a $1,000,000 prize at America’s Tribal Council after his fourth place finish on Survivor: All-Stars. While Rupert has always been a strong performer in challenges, a hard worker, and a great provider, his strategic game was lacking in both seasons. He’ll need to step it up if he wants to have a decent shot at winning the title of Sole Survivor. Tom Westman, Palau:As the leader of the virtually undefeated Koror tribe, 46 year-old Tom Westman dominated the game in a way that no player ever has. This former New York City firefighter is one of the most likable winners and is considered one of the strongest competitors in Survivor history. With the cat out of the bag that Westman’s gray hair doesn’t make him a weak competitor, will he be taken out of the game early or will this winner dominate the physical part of the game once again? James Clement, China/ Micronesia:Thirty-two year-old gravedigger James Clement gained notoriety as the “dumbest Survivor ever” after being blindsided while in possession of two hidden Immunity Idols in Survivor: China. Despite playing a weak strategic game in both China and Micronesia, Clement was a fan favorite who won $100,000 as the Sprint “Player of the Season” both times. After being evacuated due to an injury in Micronesia, how will Clement fare with another shot at a million dollars? Randy Bailey, Gabon:Fifty year-old Randy Bailey was one of the stars of Survivor: Gabon thanks to his dry humor and cantankerous personality. Well-known for his bitter feuds with fellow contestants Sugar, Crystal, and Susie, Bailey was blindsided after playing a fake hidden Immunity Idol at Tribal Council. Still, even though half his tribe hated him, Bailey was loved by the other half and maintains that people are either born with the ability to like him or they’re not. Let’s hope he doesn’t get put on a tribe with the latter group. James “J.T.” Thomas Jr., Tocantins:Winning the game in a 7-0 landslide and without receiving a single vote against him, 25 year-old J.T. Thomas is certainly one of Survivor’s most popular winners. This southern gentleman was so well-liked by his tribemates that several of them actively played the game to help him win, and he even won $1,000,000 as the Sprint “Player of the Season.” He’s also a strong physical competitor who could definitely do some damage if he makes it far into the game again. Benjamin “Coach” Wade, Tocantins:One of the most memorable characters in Survivor history, 37 year-old Benjamin “Coach” Wade gained a reputation of being delusional for insisting that he never lied during the game and for telling seemingly embellished stories, such as a tale about being captured by natives in the Amazon. Wade was also known for his strategy of bringing the strongest to the end, despite the threat they would pose to his own survival. Will he rely on this same strategy or bring a new set of tricks to Season 20? Tyson Apostol, Tocantins:Seen by many as Coach’s right-hand man, 30 year-old Tyson Apostol gained a reputation as an arrogant villain who enjoyed the misfortune of others. Believing himself to be “awesome,” this former pro cyclist was a strong player who was blindsided for being a physical threat. While Apostol admits that he somewhat played up his character to the cameras, he was nonetheless one of the more interesting players to watch in Tocantins and should bring some humor and entertainment to Season 20. Russell Hantz, Samoa:When CBS promos teased that the upcoming edition would include one of the biggest villains ever, fans were quick to peg 36 year-old Russell Hantz as the so-called “devil incarnate.” According to host Jeff Probst, Hantz is the closest castaway to “pure evil” that’s ever been on the show. His game plan in Samoa was to sabotage and weaken his tribe from early on. While it’s unknown how long he lasts, his probable inclusion in Survivor 20 suggests that he at least makes it to the merge.
