Top Chef Season 5 on Bravo has created quite a controversy over the relationship between two cheftestants Hosea and Leah. In episode 9, Restaurant Wars, Top Chef's top couple made media headlines with their on-screen kiss. Now, Hosea is speaking out about the kiss, the show and what happened after the cameras stopped rolling.
Hosea and Leah Go too Far
Top Chef contestants Leah and Hosea were close from the start. So close in fact, fans started to speculate if Top Chef had turned into Top Couple. Throughout the season - Leah and Hosea's relationship went from lighthearted banter to a full on make out session. Despite the fact that Hosea had a girlfriend to go back to in Colorado, their on screen antics made it clear that they were more than just friends.
- Favoritism: In episode 9 of Top Chef: Restaurant Wars, Leah wins the quickfire and chooses Hosea as her partner. Cheftestant Stefan in an on-screen interview scoffed at the choice, saying Leah was choosing friends over business. Still their restaurant led them to victory. In episode 8: Down on the Farm, Leah and Hosea are paired up with fellow teammate Arianne. Instead of listening to Arianne's ideas, Leah and Hosea bounce ideas off one another. Not excited to be with the "lovebirds" as she calls them, Arianne takes a beating when Leah throws her under the bus at judges table. At the end of the day, Arianne is sent home.
- Jealousy: In episode 6: The 12 Days of Christmas, Leah shows her jealous side when Hosea mentions a woman flirting with him. She says, "Where is she I'll kick her ass."
- Togetherness: Episode 9 is when Leah and Hosea kiss. However, throughout the season, the two have stayed up late chatting and talking about their menus, lending support for the others dish and participating in heavy flirting.
Cheaters Never Prosper
Leah and Hosea both had partners waiting back home. Despite their obvious closeness, Hosea and Leah told the cameras over and over again that they were 'just friends.' Of course that all changed after their steamy kiss and all night cuddle session on the New York loft couch.
Afterwards, Leah was resigned to the idea that her boyfriend was not going to hang around, even though, she says, "Hosea and I are not romantically involved in any way." Still, Hosea seemed to hold out hope, saying on screen that he was sorry for the kiss and that it was a mistake. He hoped that his girlfriend would take him back and implied that Leah made the move.
Hosea Loses Girlfriend
In a blog posted on the Top Chef Season 5 responding to the kiss between himself and Leah. In his blog, Hosea writes, "When I returned home, I told my girlfriend - one of the sweetest women on earth - what happened. She was willing to forgive me. Our relationship was never the same. We are no longer together."
Hosea's Top Chef Future
In his blog, Hosea also admits that he did not cook as well because of the incident - perhaps this is a clue? Will Hosea be the next cheftestant on the chopping block? And, will Leah speak out to viewers on the status of her relationship post Top Chef Season 5? Stay tuned.
